Being Who We Are And Letting Go
By Brian Self

Just a few days ago I received my friend's beautiful new e-newsletter and I emailed her back letting her know how beautiful I thought it was and how it always inspires me to receive her newsletters and see her growing.

I remember her telling me how happy she was that I liked the newsletter and how it was not someone emailing back asking to be removed from the list. I had to laugh at myself because I told her that I understand how she felt and how those that ask to be removed was for the highest good of ourselves and them. The funny part of this was I found myself questioning with fear what I was about to share with 250 people after giving the advice and support to my friend that turned out to be my own message to myself.

Those that are interested in what we have to share and offer will allow and ask for the messages and those that are not interested will go on their way. I really feel that this is all wonderful just the way it is... whether or not we are coming or going. So if any of you would like to be removed from this list or if you have too many email lists coming to you that are not in alignment with your life purpose and highest good; now is a great time for Spring Cleaning and letting go of what no longer serves you. Whether it be a newsletter subscription, old clothes, furniture, books, pictures, relationships, jobs or whatever it is that you feel you need to let go of, now is a great time to dedicate to doing this for yourself. You deserve it!

I just spent the last month of February going through storage (thank you and God bless you Jeannine!) and purging everything that I know does not serve me anymore. I went through everything I own and asked myself: Does this serve my highest good - is this something that will continue to serve me and others - is this something I love or is this something I am not so passionate about. Anything that I was not in alignment or congruent with I either donated to Goodwill, gave away, recycled or burned.

As soon as I cleared out all of the old stuff, all of the new things I have been in need of started arriving at my door... literally! In fact... I was in need of a new cutting board for the new kitchen I am using and thought to myself. Hmmmm... where shall I begin to look for this new cutting board? And just a little while after I asked for this I got a knock on my door from my friend Mark who said "would you like this huge cutting block in your kitchen?" This is the biggest cutting board I have ever used!

I believe everything is an inside job. Everything is born from the inside out. So many times in life we try to create our happiness from the outside in, or based on what others think we should be, or on the latest fad. We are the ones we have been waiting for. Everything you will ever need is inside your heart and dances with the call of your soul.

Oprah Winfrey did a great article in July of 2001 titled "What I Know for Sure" that I have been saving a piece from to share for over 5 years now.

"Your life is a journey of learning to love yourself first and then extending that love to others in every encounter. How can you travel on that road without fear? Whenever I am faced with a difficult decision, I ask myself: What would I do if I weren't afraid of making a mistake, feeling rejected, looking foolish or being alone? Remove the fear, and the answer comes into focus.

If you're holding anyone else accountable for your happiness, you're wasting you're time. You must be fearless enough to give yourself the love you didn't receive.  Begin noticing how every day brings a new opportunity for your growth. How buried disagreements with your mother show up in arguments with your spouse. How unconscious feelings of unworthiness appear in everything you do and don't do. All these experiences are your life's way of making itself whole - sometimes whispering, often screaming. Pay attention. Every choice gives you a chance to pave your own road. Keep moving. Full speed ahead."

I believe it is never to late. Even 5 years later... now is the only time you will ever have to begin right where you are. You can live that dream you have been brewing and nurturing for the last 10 years. It doesn't matter how long you have been sittin' on it. You can resurrect your dream anytime you would like and whenever you are ready. There were things that I was not ready to do 5 years ago that I am ready and dedicated to do now. It's all there waiting whenever we are ready. There is no place to arrive... only a beautiful journey to love and enjoy.

God give us the strength to take and to live the advice that we are so quick to tell everyone else.

Sincerely Yours in Heart & Soul, Health & Healing,
Brian
