New Age Whipped Cream On Shit: Follow Up
By Brian Self

I got so many grateful responses, along with a request from a reader from the San Diego Grapevine to write on "what specific behaviors and beliefs do I see as being the most destructive and/or dysfunctional?", so this article is dedicated to answering this question and is a continuation of feeling more into this.

Where we get hung up is not in the behaviors or beliefs. It is in the WHY of how we came into that particular belief or behavior in the first place. I am finding that many of the beliefs, affirmations and practices I put into place in my life were unconsciously taken up by my strategic self or some small/wounded part of me to upholster over the years of suppression of pain I have had with my family of origin. This includes many new age practices, and yes... I have a shadow side to my passion/purpose in nutrition. In fact, I got so into this hoping to get fixed and that one day by being clean, good and perfect enough I would finally heal away all my core unworth and emotional pain that never seemed to go away no matter how much I cleansed. This pain seems to runs deep for many of us, as I have seen and felt face-to-face in my emotional body enlightenment process.

It is more important to feel into WHY we do what we do and WHY some continue running around doing every new age thing or "healing" practice that comes along. It is our relationship to what we do in life that is where the nectar is at. This says it all in my opinion. Anything can be a medication. Anything that has us in a pattern that feels unhealthy and does not nourish our heart and soul would be something to look at and feel into the WHY behind what we are doing.

So in my opinion it is not about which practices, behaviors and beliefs are most destructive as it is about getting to the root of how those practices came to be in the first place. Then we can feel into whether we need to let that particular thing go or we may find that it is rooted in an authentic passion/purpose for us.

Find what healing practice really feels good in your heart and go for it! A practice only works when it feels right and you stick with it to the point that it continues to nourish your heart and soul. This goes for anything from relationship, exercise, yoga and meditation to nutrition. It is in the faithful, heartfelt and passionate dedication to something that you feel deeply connected to, that brings the joy and healing we all ache and hunger for. I believe that settling in for the long haul is the only way to go if you want the overflowing buffet of heart food.

The heart bleeding or pain that comes with facing and embracing our unfinished business is so worth the enriching and deepening of heart food that organically arises out of this courageous and brave process!
